And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do; now nothing that they propose to do will be impossible for them.


Confuse, O Lord, divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.


And I said: “Woe is me! For I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.”


Is not My word like fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?


“I indeed baptize you with water to repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.


But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.


They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the way and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”


In those days Peter stood up among the disciples (the number of people together was about one hundred and twenty), and said,


Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own languages the mighty works of God.”


Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.


and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.


to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.


The tongue is a fire, a world of evil. The tongue is among the parts of the body, defiling the whole body, and setting the course of nature on fire, and it is set on fire by hell.


And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”


Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth, to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.
