22 When He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, of whom He testified, saying, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will fulfill My entire will.’

Then the men of Judah came and there anointed David as king over the house of Judah, and they informed David that it was the men of Jabesh-gilead who had buried Saul.


My commitment will not abandon him, as I removed it from Saul, whom I deposed before you.


Now therefore, you will say to My servant David: Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following after the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.


He walked in all the sins of his father that he had done before him, and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God as the heart of his father David had been.


because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter involving Uriah the Hittite.


So Saul died for his unfaithful deeds against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and because he consulted a medium, seeking guidance.


Boaz fathered Obed, and Obed fathered Jesse.


“I have set My king on Zion, My holy hill.”


then also My covenant may be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levitical priests, My ministers.


then I would cast away the seed of Jacob and David My servant, so that I would not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yet I will restore their fortunes and have mercy on them.


I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David. He shall feed them himself and be their shepherd.


Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come in fear to the Lord and to His goodness in the latter days.


“For after David had served by the counsel of God in his own generation, he fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw decay.


God, who knows the heart, approved of them, giving them the Holy Spirit just as He did to us,


who found favor in the presence of God and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.


But if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away.”


“I regret that I have set up Saul to be king because he has turned back from following Me, and he has not carried out My words.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried to the Lord all night.


For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.”


Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”


Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.


The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from ruling over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have chosen a king for Myself from among his sons.”


Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.


Then said Samuel, “Why then do you ask me, since the Lord has departed from you and has become your enemy?


So Saul died with his three sons and his armor bearer, together with all his men on that same day.
