16 When the ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked down from the window, and upon seeing King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she thought contemptuously of him in her mind.

Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, to whom I was betrothed for a hundred Philistine foreskins.”


Nevertheless, David overthrew the stronghold of Zion, which is now the City of David.


So David and the whole house of Israel escorted the ark of the Lord with shouting and the sound of the horn.


David returned to bless his household, but Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet him. She said, “How the king of Israel has dignified himself today, exposing himself this day in the sight of his servant’s slave girls like one of the rabble might shamelessly expose himself.”


Now as the ark of the covenant of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal the daughter of Saul was looking down from the window, and when she saw King David dancing and spinning, she despised him in her heart.


Have mercy upon us, O  Lord, have mercy upon us, for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.


because for Your sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face.


He was despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from him; he was despised, and we did not esteem him.


Others mocking said, “These men are full of new wine.”


But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.


Saul said to David, “Behold my elder daughter Merab, I will give her to you as your wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the battles of the Lord.” For Saul said, “Let not my hand be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”


Now Michal, daughter of Saul, loved David and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
