Joab said to the king, “May the Lord your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, in the sight of my lord the king; but why does my lord the king so desire this thing?”


They crossed the Jordan and camped at Aroer, south of the city, in the middle of the ravine of Gad toward Jazer.


Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab, so Joab departed and went throughout all Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.


However, the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but kept the male children alive.


When you take the census of the Israelites according to their number, then each man is to pay a ransom for his life to the Lord when you count them, so that there be no plague among them when you number them.
