When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army with the warriors.


But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and David’s mighty men did not join Adonijah.


Now these are the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened him in his kingdom, along with all Israel, to establish him as king according to the word of the Lord to Israel.


Now these are the sons of Israel according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who ministered to the king in all matters concerning the divisions, which came and went, month by month throughout all the months of the year, to each division of twenty-four thousand:


Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel led the first division for the first month; in his division, twenty-four thousand.


Also Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hakmoni was with the king’s sons.


Then he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and with it struck down a thousand men.
