He passed through all of the tribes of Israel toward Abel of Beth-maacah, also passing by all of the Bichrites. Once assembled, they also came after him.


So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel and conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel of Beth-maacah, and all Kinnereth, along with all the land of Naphtali.


In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel of Beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, Galilee, and all the land of Naphtali, and then exiled them to Assyria.


“Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He will not enter this city, shoot an arrow there, approach it with shield, or heap up a siege ramp against it.


There was a small city with a few men in it. A great king came against it, surrounded it, and built great siege works against it.


“Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor build a siege ramp against it.


Behold, the siege ramps have come to the city to take it. And the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence, and what You have spoken has come to pass, and behold, you see it.


For thus says the Lord God of Israel concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword:


For thus says the Lord of Hosts: Hew down trees and build a mound against Jerusalem. This is the city to be punished. She is full of oppression in her midst.


Then lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and build a mound against it; set camps and place battering rams against it all around.


For the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you and surround you, and press you in on every side.
