Then Leah said, “Happy am I, for women will call me happy.” So she called his name Asher.


Ish-bosheth the son of Saul was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he ruled for two years. However, the house of Judah followed David.


While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was strengthening himself in the house of Saul.


From the sons of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul: three thousand (up to that time the greater number of them were keeping their loyalty with the house of Saul).


From the sons of Ephraim: twenty thousand eight hundred mighty men of valor, men of reputation in the house of their fathers.


Gilead is Mine; Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet of My head; Judah is My scepter.


Of the sons of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war,


The territory of the Ephraimites, according to their clans, was as follows. The border of their inheritance on the east was Ataroth Addar as far as upper Beth-horon.


From Tappuah the border goes west to the Kanah Ravine and out to the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the Ephraimites according to their clans.

So the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan to go to the land of Gilead, the land of their possession, according to the word of the Lord through Moses.


Asher lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they did not drive them out.


Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek, and the Israelites were camping by the spring which is in Jezreel.
