Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel; and Asahel was as fast as a wild gazelle.


Abner looked behind him and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” He answered, “It is I.”


Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right or left, overtake one of the young men, and take his equipment for yourself,” but Asahel was not willing to desist.


So Abner returned to Hebron, and Joab pulled him aside in the gateway so as to speak with him undisturbed. There he struck him in the midsection so that he died on account of the blood of Asahel, his brother.


So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner, because he killed Asahel their brother at Gibeon in the battle.


He did what was right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of David his father. He did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.


Do not turn to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.


Be strong and very courageous, in order to act carefully in accordance with all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn aside from it to the right or the left, so that you may succeed wherever you go.


“Now be very strong to observe and enact all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, so that you do not deviate from it to the right or the left.
