When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s camp.” So he called the name of that place Mahanaim.


Then Absalom and all of the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had decided to undermine the prudent advice of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring calamity to Absalom.


However, Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Saul, had taken Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.


On the day the Lord gave over the Amorites to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the Lord and said in full view of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”


he and his people were very afraid. Gibeon was a large city, like one of the royal cities. It was larger than Ai, and all its men were warriors.


“Come and help me! Let us attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and all the Israelites.”


But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,


If he is able to fight with me and to strike me down, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and strike him down, then you will be our servants and will serve us.”
