When the Ammonites saw that they had become odious to David, the Ammonites sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob and the Arameans of Zobah, twenty thousand foot soldiers, and from the king of Maacah, one thousand men, and from Tob, twelve thousand men.


When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army with the warriors.


When Joab saw that the battlefronts were both before and behind him, he selected some from the best men in Israel and lined them up opposite Aram.


Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maacathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,


He gathered a group of men and became leader over a band when David killed the men of Zobah, and they fled to Damascus and lived and reigned there.


So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, with the king of Maacah and his people. They camped before Medeba as the Ammonites gathered from their cities to go out to war.


So the Ammonites went out and formed ranks for battle at the entrance to the city while the kings who had come were by themselves in the open country.


Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maakathite, they and their men.


So they went up and explored the land from the Wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near Lebo Hamath.


Abdon, Rehob, Hammon, Kanah, as far as Greater Sidon.


Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Akko, Sidon, Ahlab, Akzib, Helbah, Aphek, or Rehob.


So Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. Men of ill repute gathered around Jephthah and went out with him.


When the Ammonites waged war with Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah back from the land of Tob.
