Now when the Philistines fought against Israel, every Israelite fled before the Philistines, and the slain fell on Mount Gilboa.


The next day, when the Philistines came to pillage the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.


Your neck is like the tower of David, built with strength. On it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.


Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat and drink. Arise, you princes, and oil the shields.


And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned or dug, but briers and thorns shall come up. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.


Thus says the Lord God: On the day when it went down to Sheol I caused mourning. I covered the deep over it and restrained its rivers, and its many waters were stayed. And I caused Lebanon to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field fainted for it.


The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests mourn, who are ministers to the Lord.


Who knows? He might turn aside and relent, and He might leave behind a blessing — a grain offering and a food offering for the Lord your God.


Curse Meroz, said the angel of the Lord, curse its inhabitants, for they did not come to the aid of the Lord, to the aid of the Lord against the mighty warriors.


Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head. And he kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you over His inheritance as ruler?


Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and Israel’s fighting men fled before the Philistines and they fell slain on Mount Gilboa.


The following day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
