But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid. He struck down the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David made an oath with him, saying, “You shall no longer come out with us to battle, so that you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel.”


My commitment will not abandon him, as I removed it from Saul, whom I deposed before you.


Your house and dominion will endure before Me forever, and your throne will be established by the Lord forever.


I will not do this in your lifetime for your father David’s sake, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.


However, I will not take the whole kingdom away, but will preserve one tribe for your son for David My servant’s sake and for the sake of Jerusalem which I chose.”


To his son will I give one tribe, so that My servant David will always have a light before Me in Jerusalem, the city in which I have chosen to put My name.


But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered; and they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom, from Athaliah, so that he was not killed.


For I will protect this city to save it, for My own sake and for the sake of David My servant.”


But the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David because of the covenant that He made with David, and because He said that He would give a lamp to David and his sons for all days.


For the sake of Your servant David, turn not away the face of Your anointed.


“There will I make the horn of David sprout up; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed.


For I will defend this city to save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.”


Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.


I will not execute the fierceness of My anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.
