It was in the third year of Asa king of Judah that Baasha killed him and took his throne.


Zimri went in and smote him and killed him. This took place in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and Zimri reigned in his place.


When Zimri saw that the city had fallen, he went into the citadel of the king’s house and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and he died,


The Lord said to him, “Go, return on the road through the Wilderness of Damascus, and when you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Aram.


But Pekah son of Remaliah, his officer, conspired against him and struck him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with Argob, Arieh, and fifty men of the Gileadites with him. He killed him and reigned in his place.


Then Hoshea son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah son of Remaliah and struck and killed him. Then he reigned in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.


And Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You will certainly recover,’ but the Lord has shown me that he will certainly die.”


Hazael said, “What? Is your servant a dog that he should do this great thing?” And Elisha said, “The Lord has shown me that you will be king over Aram.”


He went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead, and the Arameans struck Joram.


Jehu drew a bow with his full strength and shot Joram between his shoulder blades. The arrow went out at his heart, and he knelt down in his chariot.


He devises mischief on his bed; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he does not reject evil.


Woe to you, O destroyer, though you were not destroyed, and he who is treacherous, though others did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease destroying, you shall be destroyed; and when you finish dealing treacherously, others shall deal treacherously with you.


Woe to those who conceive wickedness, to those who devise evil on their beds! At morning’s light they execute it, because it is in the power of their hand.


As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘From the wicked comes forth wickedness,’ but my hand will not be against you.
