25 They demolished the cities, and on every good piece of land every man threw a stone and filled it with stones, and they stopped every spring of water and cut down every good tree. Only in Kir Hareseth did the stones in the wall remain, until the slingers surrounded it and struck it.

For the Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father by filling them with dirt.


Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names his father had called them.


He also defeated Moab. He measured them with a length of rope, forcing them to lie down on the ground. He measured two lengths of rope to be put to death, but the entirety of one length he allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David, bearing tribute.


You will strike every fortified city and every choice city, and will cut down every good tree, and stop every spring of water, and you will ruin every good piece of land with stones.”


When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites arose and struck the Moabites, so that they ran from them. And they went forward into their land, killing the Moabites.


When the king of Moab saw that the battle was overwhelming him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they were unable.


So, many people assembled and worked to stop up all the springs and the stream flowing through the area. They reasoned, “Why should the king of Assyria come and find a great amount of water?”


The oracle of Moab. Surely in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste and brought to silence, surely in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste and brought to silence,


Therefore my heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kir Hareseth.


Therefore Moab shall wail for Moab; everyone shall wail. For the loss of raisin cakes of Kir Hareseth you shall mourn; surely they are destroyed.


Therefore I will howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab. My heart shall mourn for the men of Kir Hareseth.


Therefore My heart will wail for Moab like pipes, and My heart will wail like pipes for the men of Kir Hareseth, because the riches that they have gotten have perished.


The Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites, nor contend with them in battle, for I will not give you any of their land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.”


Abimelech fought against the city all that day. He captured the city and killed the people inside it; he tore down the city and spread salt over it.
