What do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and in the spirit of meekness?


In this confidence I planned to come to you before, that you might have a second benefit:


Moreover I call God as a witness upon my soul, that it is to spare you that I have not yet gone to Corinth.


I have become a fool in boasting. You have compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for I am in no way inferior to the leading apostles, though I am nothing.


And I fear that when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall mourn for many who have sinned already, who have not repented of impurity, sexual immorality, and lasciviousness which they have committed.


Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should be sharp, according to the authority which the Lord has given me for edification and not for destruction.


For to this end I also wrote, so that I might know that you are proving yourselves by whether you are being obedient in all things.


So though I wrote to you, I did it not because of him who had done the wrong, nor because of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might be evident to you.


Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything.


Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us through the coming of Titus,


Though I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I perceive that this same letter has caused you sorrow, though only for a while.


Furthermore, we have sent with them our brother whom we have frequently proved diligent in many things, but now is much more diligent, due to the great confidence which he has in you.


I have confidence in you through the Lord that you will not think otherwise. But he who is troubling you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.


We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will do the things which we command you.


Being convinced of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will also do more than I say.
