The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place, and he offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.


So David conferred with the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds and with every leader.


He said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, you and your brothers, so that you may bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.


David assembled all Israel to Jerusalem in order to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it.


These also cast lots just as their brothers, the sons of Aaron, in the presence of David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites, the head of the fathers’ houses as well as his younger brother.


Since the sons of Eleazar were found to have more chief men than the sons of Ithamar, they divided them into sixteen heads of the fathers’ houses for the sons of Eleazar, and eight for the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses.


Now these are the sons of Israel according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who ministered to the king in all matters concerning the divisions, which came and went, month by month throughout all the months of the year, to each division of twenty-four thousand:


Now David assembled all the leaders of Israel in Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the officers of the divisions of those ministering to the king, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, the stewards over all the property and livestock of the king and his sons with the eunuchs and the fighting men and all the brave warriors.


King David said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great since the palace is not for a man but for the Lord God.


Then they all went, Solomon and all the assembly that was with him, to the high place that was at Gibeon, because the tent of meeting with God, which Moses the servant of the Lord had made in the wilderness, was there.


So King Hezekiah got up early and gathered the officials of the city and went up to the house of the Lord.


The king counseled with his officials and all the assembly in Jerusalem, to keep the Passover in the second month.
