For there is no uprightness in their mouth; destruction is in their midst; their throat is an open tomb; they flatter with their tongue.


You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit.


Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.


Nor shall any priest drink wine when they enter the inner court.


Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations,

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own houses well.


An overseer then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach;


not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for money, but patient, not argumentative, not covetous;


No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent illnesses.

Likewise, older women should be reverent in behavior, and not be false accusers, not be enslaved to much wine, but teachers of good things,

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, take care of them, not by constraint, but willingly, not for dishonest gain, but eagerly.
