Barzillai was very old, eighty years old. But he sustained the king during his stay in Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.


Now in the citadel of Susa, there was a certain Jew named Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite.


His possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and very many servants. This man was the greatest of all the people of the East.


Then they requested a king. And God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.


So they ran and took him from there. When he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.


Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.


Now there was a man in Maon whose work was in Carmel. He was a rich man with three thousand sheep and a thousand goats, and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
