Be strong and let us fight with resolve for the sake of our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord do what seems good to Him.”


The people shall take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the Lord for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captive, whose captives they were, and they shall rule over their oppressors.


Woe to you, O destroyer, though you were not destroyed, and he who is treacherous, though others did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease destroying, you shall be destroyed; and when you finish dealing treacherously, others shall deal treacherously with you.


Watch, stand fast in the faith, be bold like men, and be strong.


The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites.


Again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.


Even the Hebrews who were with the Philistines the days before, who went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.


Woe to us! Who will deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with every plague in the wilderness.
