On the third day, behold, a man came from the camp of Saul with his clothes torn and dirt upon his head. As he approached David, he fell to the ground prostrate.


So Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the long robe that she was wearing. She put her hand on her head and left, wailing as she went.


When David came to the summit where he would worship God, behold, Hushai the Arkite approached him with his coat torn and dirt on his head.


Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the Israelites were assembled with fasting and sackcloth, and there was dirt on them.


They saw him from a distance and did not recognize him, so they wept aloud. Each one tore his robe, and they tossed dust into the air above their heads.

that on that day he who escapes shall come to you to cause you to hear it with your ears?


And they shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads; they shall wallow in ashes.


Then Joshua ripped his clothes. He and the Israelite elders fell on their faces to the ground in front of the ark of the Lord until evening and threw dirt upon their heads.
