And David brought the men who were with him, each man with his household, and they lived in the cities of Hebron.


The man’s name was Nabal and the name of his wife Abigail. She was a woman of good understanding and beautiful, but the man was harsh and evil in his actions and he was a Calebite.


It was reported to Saul that David had fled to Gath, so he no longer sought him.


David and his men came to the city, and they found it burned with fire, and their wives, their sons, and their daughters taken captive.


Now David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
