1 Samuel 26:19 - Modern English Version

19 Now please let my lord king hear the words of his servant. If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it was the sons of men, cursed are they before the Lord. For they have driven me today from having a share in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’

Then Judah approached him and said, “O my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord’s ears, and do not be angry with your servant, for you are equal to Pharaoh.


The Lord smelled a soothing aroma; and the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the inclination of man’s heart is evil from his youth, nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.


For the king may accept my request to deliver his servant from the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son from the inheritance of God.’


The king responded, “What do you have against me, sons of Zeruiah? Suppose that he curses because the Lord has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ Who shall then say, ‘Why do you do so?’ ”


David then said to Abishai and to all of his servants, “Behold, my son who came from my own body seeks my life, and now also this Benjamite. Leave him alone and let him curse if the Lord has so instructed him.


I am a trustworthy and faithful one of Israel. You are attempting to destroy a city, even a mother, in Israel. Why do you swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?”


David said to the Gibeonites, “What must I do for you, and with what may I appease you that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord?”


Again the Lord became angry against Israel, and He incited David against them, saying, “Go and count the people of Israel and Judah.”

May He grant you your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your plans.


Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.


Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and rejoice because the abundance of the sea shall be converted to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.


I will make your cities a waste and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the aroma of your fragrant offerings.


So the inheritance of the Israelites will not turn from tribe to tribe, because every one of the Israelites will keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.


Thus no inheritance will turn from one tribe to another tribe, but every tribe of the Israelites will keep its own inheritance.’ ”


If your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food one for whom Christ died.
