When David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, the seer for David, saying,


He also defeated Moab. He measured them with a length of rope, forcing them to lie down on the ground. He measured two lengths of rope to be put to death, but the entirety of one length he allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David, bearing tribute.


(At that time, David was in the stronghold, but a garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem.)


Some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold of David.


And the Lord spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,


Now the acts of David the king, first to last, are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer


And he set the Levites at the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the commandment of David, and Gad the seer of the king, and Nathan the prophet. For the commandment came from the Lord through His prophets.


But I said, “Should a man like me flee? Who is there like me who would go into the temple to save his life? I would never go!”


In the Lord I seek refuge; how do you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain,


But when they persecute you in this city, escape into another. For truly I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.


Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come forth and be with you until I know what God will do for me.”


The prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold. Go to the land of Judah.” So David went and came to the forest of Hereth.
