What he did displeased the Lord; therefore He killed him also.


But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord killed him.


“If any man sins against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath comes before Your altar in this house,


then may You hear in heaven and act and judge Your servants, condemning the wicked, bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, giving him according to his righteousness.


The king did not listen to the people, for the event occurred because of God, that the Lord might establish His word that He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.


But while the prophet was speaking, the king said, “Have we made you a counselor to the king? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” The prophet refrained, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you because you have done this and not heeded my advice.”


Nor is there a mediator between us, who may lay his hand upon us both.


For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.


Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when you speak, and blameless when You pass judgment.


A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.


Discipline is severe for him who forsakes the way, and he who hates reproof will die.


He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.
