Casting lots settles disputes; and keeps the mighty apart.


The sailors said to one another, “Come, let us cast lots that we may know on whose account this disaster has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.


Then they prayed, “You, Lord, who knows the hearts of all men, show which of these two You have chosen


Then they cast lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. So he was numbered with the eleven apostles.


Then he said to all Israel, “You will be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” And the people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”


Saul said, “Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.” And Jonathan was taken.
