Previously, when Saul was king over us, you were the one leading Israel out and in. Also, the Lord said to you: You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over Israel.”


Then David responded to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me over your father and over everyone in his household, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. I was celebrating before the Lord.


“Turn back and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people: Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.


So Saul died for his unfaithful deeds against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and because he consulted a medium, seeking guidance.


He chose David His servant and took him from the sheepfolds;


for riches do not last forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations.


Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of Hosts.


When He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, of whom He testified, saying, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will fulfill My entire will.’


who found favor in the presence of God and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.


For it was fitting for Him, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the author of their salvation complete through suffering.

Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”


Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.


The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from ruling over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have chosen a king for Myself from among his sons.”


So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy with beautiful eyes and a good appearance. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”


“Therefore the Lord God of Israel says, ‘I surely said that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever,’ but now the Lord says, ‘Far be it from Me to do so, for those who honor Me, I will honor, and those that despise Me will be humbled.


Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.


It will be, when the Lord does for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you and has appointed you ruler over Israel,


“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin. And you will anoint him to be leader over My people Israel, that he may save My people out of the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come unto Me.”
