Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.


So Gad came to David and told him. He said to him, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or shall you flee three months before your enemies while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days of plague in your land? Now consider and advise what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.”


The Lord became angry against Uzzah, and God struck him down on the spot for his irreverence. He died there beside the ark of God.


for I was commanded by the word of the Lord: You shall eat no bread and drink no water there, nor return by the way you came.”


Then as they sat at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who brought him back,


but instead came back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which the Lord told you to eat no bread and drink no water, your carcass will not be buried in the tomb of your fathers!”


Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, as soon as you leave me, a lion will kill you.” And as soon as he left him, a lion found and killed him.

“Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent.


Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? And why did you rush upon the spoil and do evil in the sight of the Lord?”


When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate. And his neck broke and he died, for he was an old and heavy man. And he had judged Israel forty years.
