On the third day, behold, a man came from the camp of Saul with his clothes torn and dirt upon his head. As he approached David, he fell to the ground prostrate.


The king said, “Let him turn to his own house. He shall not come into my presence.” So Absalom turned to his house and did not come into the king’s presence.


Absalom lived in Jerusalem for two full years without coming into the king’s presence.


So Joab came and reported this to him. Then he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king, bowed low to him, his face on the ground before the king; then the king kissed Absalom.


Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said, “What do you want?”


Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground in reverence to the king and said, “Let my lord King David live forever.”


And Solomon said, “If he will show himself a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground, but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”


Now it was coming close to the day of David’s death, and he gave his son Solomon a charge, saying:


The king sent and called for Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for yourself in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and never leave the city.


My son, fear the Lord and the king, and do not associate with those given to change,
