before time And Iacob vowed a vowe sayinge: If God wyll be wyth me, and wyll kepe me in thys iourney whyche I goo, and wyll gyue me breade to eate, and clothes to put on,


I wyll paye my vowes vnto the Lord in the syght of al his people,


How he swore vnto the Lorde, and vowed a vowe vnto the allmyghty one of Iacob:


Yf anye man loue not the Lorde Iesus Christ the same be anathema maranatha.


then thou shalt smite the dwellers of that city with the edge of the swerde, & destroye it mercilesse and all that is therin,


& euen the very cattell therof wyth the edge of the swerd. And gather al the spoile of it into the myddes of the streates thereof, and burne with fyre boeth the city and al the spoyle therof euery whyt vnto the Lord thy God. And it shal be an heape for euer & shal not be built agayne.


But in the cities of these nacions which the Lorde thy God geueth the to enheret, thou shalt saue alyue nothyng that breatheth.


and when the Lord thy God hath sett them before the that thou shouldest smyt them se that thou vtterly destroye them and make no couenaunt with theym nor haue compassyon vppon theym. Also thou shalte make no maryages wyth theim,


But the cytye shalbe excommunicate, bothe it and all that is therein, vnto the Lord: onelye Rahab the harlot shall lyue, bothe she and all that is wyth her in the house, because she hydde the messengers that we sent.


And Iosua cursed at that tyme, saying, cursed be the man before the Lorde, that ryseth vp and buyldeth thys citie Iericho: so that he laye the foundacyon wyth the death of hys eldest sonne, & with the death, of hys youngest set vp the gates.


And Iephthah vowed a vowe vnto the Lorde and sayd: If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into my handes,


and vowed a vowe and said: Lord of hostes, yf thou wylt loke on the wretchednesse of thyne handmayde, and shalt remembre me, and not forget thyne handmayde, & shalte geue vnto thyne handmayde a manchylde I wyll geue him vnto the Lord, all the dayes of hys lyfe, & there shal neyther raser or sheres come vpon hys heade.
