Because they prouoked his spirite, and he told them plainly with his lippes.


For they spoke agaynst God, & sayde: yea yea, God shall prepare a table in the wildernesse, shall he?


And the people chode wyth Moses and sayde: geue vs water to drynke. And Moses sayde vnto them: why chyde ye wyth me, and wherfore do ye tempte the Lord?


Teth. They that be slayne with the swearde, are happier then soch as dye of honger, and perishe awaye famyshyng for the fruites of the felde.


And the people complayned & it displeased the eares of the Lorde. And when the lord heard it he was wroth, and the fyre of the Lorde burnt amonge them and consumed the vttermost of the hoste.


Wherfore hath the Lorde brought vs vnto thys lande to fall vpon the swerde, that both oure wyues, and also our chyldren shoulde be a praye? is it not better that we retourne vnto Egypt agayne?


And the numbre of them that dyed in the plage, were .xiiij. thousand and seuen hundred: beside them that dyed about the busines of Corah.
