1 And the tribe of Manasses, whiche was the eldeste sonne of Ioseph receiued a lot. And Machyr the eldest sonne of Manasses, whiche was the father of Galaad (and a man of warre) had Galaad & Basan.

And he called the name of the fyrst sonne Manasse, for God (sayde he) hath made me forget all my laboure and all my fathers houshold.


The seconde called he Ephraim, for God (sayde he) hath caused me to growe in the lande of my trouble.


And vnto Ioseph in the lande of Egypte were borne: Manasses and Ephraim whiche Asnath the daughter of Putiphar prest of On bare vnto hym.


When Ioseph sawe that hys father layde his ryght hand vpon the heade of Ephraim, it displeased him. And he lyfte vp his fathers hande, to haue remoued it from Ephrayms head vnto Manasses head,


and sayde vnto hys father: Not so my father, for thys is the eldest. Put thy ryght hande vpon hys head.


And Ioseph sawe Ephraims chyldren, euen vnto the thyrde generacion. And vnto Machir the sonne of Manasses were chyldren borne, and sat on Iosephes knees.


and made hym kyng ouer Galaad and ouer the Assurites, & ouer Iesrahel: and ouer Ephraim and Beniamin, and ouer all Israel.


And he ouercame the Gessurites and the Aramites, & toke the townes of Iair from them, and Kenath with the townes that longed to the same, euen threskore townes. All these were the sonne of Machir the father of Galaad.


Thus sayeth the Lorde God: Let this be the border wherin ye shall deuyde the lande vnto the .xij. tribes of Israell, wyth the lyne.


Vpon the borders of Nephthali from the east quarter vnto the west, shall Manasses haue his porcion.


The chyldren of Manasse: Machir, of whom cometh the kynred of the Machirites. And Machir begat Galaad, of whom cometh the kynred of the Galaadites.


And the daughters of Zelaphead the Sonne of Heber the sonne of Gilead, the sonne of Machir the sonne of Manasse of the kynredes of Manasse, the sone of Ioseph (whose names were Mahela, Noha, Hagla, Melcha, and Thyrza)


And Moses gaue vnto the chyldren of Gad and of Ruben and vnto halfe the trybe of Manasse the sonne of Ioseph, the kyngdome of Sehon kynge of the Amorites, and the kyngdome of Og kynge of Bason, the lande that longed vnto the cyties therof in the costes of the countre rounde aboute.


But he shal know the sonne of the hated for his firstborne that he geue him dowble of al that he hath. For he is the fyrst of his strength, and to hym belongeth the ryght of the fyrstborne shyppe.


And the reste of the children of Manasses receiued by their kynredes: whyche were the children of Abieser, the children of Helek, the chyldren of Asriel: the children of Sychem, the children of Hepher: the children of Semida. These are the male children of Manasses, the sonne of Ioseph in theyr kynredes.


Vnto the one halfe of the trybe of Manasses, Moses gaue possession in Basan, and vnto the other half therof gaue Iosua with their brethren on this syde Iordan westward. And also when Iosua sent them awaye vnto theyr tentes and blessed them,


Ephraim was the fyrst agaynst Amaleck, And after them BenIamin, among the people. Of Machir came learned men in the lawe, and of Zabulon that well coulde drawe with the penne of a scrybe.
