And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jez´ebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.


Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasue´rus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odors, and with other things for the purifying of the women,)


Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.


And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and subtile of heart.


And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell.


And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.


Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way,


And I will visit upon her the days of Ba´alim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.


Whose adorning, let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;


Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
