And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jez´reelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.


And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jez´reelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.


And the king of Israel said unto Jehosh´aphat, There is yet one man, Micai´ah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehosh´aphat said, Let not the king say so.


Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mor´decai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.


For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.


The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
