And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.


[A Psalm of David.] LORD, I cry unto you: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto you.


Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto you, when I lift up my hands toward your holy sanctuary.


I cried to you, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.


[A Psalm of David. A maschil.] Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.


[To the Chief Musician on neginoth. A maschil, a Psalm of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Does not David hide himself with us?] Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me by your strength.


[To the Chief Musician, altaschith. A michtam of David, when he fled from Saul into the cave.] Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusts in you: yea, in the shadow of your wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities have passed.


(Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.


And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself: and David and his men remained in the recesses of the cave.


And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto you, Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it shall seem good unto you. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe stealthily.
