Hide not your face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline your ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.


Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.


I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a broad place.


[A song of ascents.] I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from which comes my help.


[A song of ascents. Of David.] I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.


[A song of ascents.] Unto you I lift up my eyes, O you that dwell in the heavens.


[A song of ascents. Of David.] If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;


[A song of ascents.] They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abides forever.


[A song of ascents.] When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.


[A song of ascents. Of Solomon.] Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain that build it: unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman wakes, but in vain.

[A song of ascents. Of David.] LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.


And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.


Whoever offers praise glorifies me: and to him that orders his conduct aright will I show the salvation of God.


And said, I cried by reason of my affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of sheol cried I, and you heard my voice.


For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods surrounded me: all your billows and your waves passed over me.


And being in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.


Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;


Therefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.


For this child I prayed; and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him:
