And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.


And they buried him in his own sepulcher, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet ointments and various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer’s art: and they made a very great fire in honor of him.


And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, there came a woman having an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard very precious; and she broke the flask, and poured it on his head.


She has done what she could: she has come beforehand to anoint my body for burying.


There were also women looking on from afar: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;


And now when the evening was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,


And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.


And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun.


And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulcher; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they anything to any man; for they were afraid.


And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath was coming on.


And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.


Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others came with them.


Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.


The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
