And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Why have you torn your clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.


And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.


And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.


And the LORD said unto Moses, How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?


O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?


And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will it be before they believe me, with all the signs which I have shown among them?


How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.


Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.


But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah:


Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commands even the winds and water, and they obey him.


And I besought your disciples to cast him out; and they could not.


And as he was yet coming, the demon threw him down, and tore him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.


Jesus said unto him, Have I been so long a time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how say you then, Show us the Father?


Then said he to Thomas, Reach here your finger, and behold my hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.


And about the time of forty years he endured their manners in the wilderness.


And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.


Or despise you the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?


They have corrupted themselves, their blemish is not the blemish of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.


So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.


Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.


For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.


Therefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.
