Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their backs, and slew your prophets who testified against them to turn them to you, and they worked great provocations.


Yet many years did you bear with them, and testified against them by your spirit in your prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore you gave them into the hand of the people of the lands.


Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.


Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of your wings,


How excellent is your lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings.


[To the Chief Musician, altaschith. A michtam of David, when he fled from Saul into the cave.] Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusts in you: yea, in the shadow of your wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities have passed.


Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!


He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler.


For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: but you would not.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: yet I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but you hearkened not unto me.


Therefore thus says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.


Thus says the LORD, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it.


For these things I weep; my eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.


For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,


As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.


And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.


Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he has given you the former rain faithfully, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.


Be you not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts; Turn you now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, says the LORD.


And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.


And the remnant took his servants, and treated them shamefully, and slew them.


And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore his father came out, and entreated him.


And shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.


But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.


Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them who showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:


And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.


And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.


O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!


O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!


And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.


The LORD recompense your work, and a full reward be given you of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to trust.
