And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he tore his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man does send unto me to cure a man of his leprosy? therefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.


Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.


But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why test me, you hypocrites?


Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him, and saying,


And they sent unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.


And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.


And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:


And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should pretend themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.


And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.


But do not yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from you.
