And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,


I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and laid my strength in the dust.


Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.


And there is hope in your end, says the LORD, that your children shall come again to their own border.


That you may remember, and be ashamed, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I provide toward you an atonement for all that you have done, says the Lord GOD.


Who knows if he will return and have pity, and leave a blessing behind him; even a grain offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?


Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?


Seek you the LORD, all you meek of the earth, who have kept his commands; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be you shall be hidden in the day of the LORD'S anger.


And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.


Now we know that whatsoever things the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
