And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.


And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.


And they passed over Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the valley of Gad, and toward Jazer:


Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the genealogy of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valor at Jazer of Gilead.


And Heshbon with its pasture lands, and Jazer with its pasture lands.


For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the nations have broken down its choicest vines, they have come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they have gone over the sea.


The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.


O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer: your plants have gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the plunderer has fallen upon your summer fruit and upon your vintage.


Mark the way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the fortified.


But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour its palaces, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:


And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.


And Atroth Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,


And when you come near the border of the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.


For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.


And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah;


And Moses gave inheritance unto the tribe of Gad, even unto the children of Gad according to their families.


And from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;


Heshbon with its pasture lands, Jazer with its pasture lands; four cities in all.


Gilead abode beyond the Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode by his inlets.
