And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel do you give me to return an answer to this people?


With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.


Lo, my eye has seen all this, my ear has heard and understood it.


With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than your father.


Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:


Know you not this of old, since man was placed upon the earth,


[To the Chief Musician for the Sons of Korah, a maschil.] We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the times of old.


The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known your truth.


Hear this, you aged men, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this happened in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?


For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.


Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.


Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.


For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has been heard anything like it?
