And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the scepter.


Then king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.


All the strength of the wicked also will I cut off; but the strength of the righteous shall be exalted.


The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turns it wherever he will.


So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there old clothes and old rags, and let them down by ropes into the cistern to Jeremiah.


Now when Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the cistern; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;


My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the cistern; and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
