He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was angry with his inheritance.


Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfies not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat you that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.


I the LORD search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.


I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.


And they will deceive everyone his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.


For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: the stalk has no bud: it shall yield no meal: if so be it does yield, the aliens shall swallow it up.


I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning fever, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.


And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield its increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.


You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and make sweet wine, but shall not drink wine.


Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor to feed the fire, and the people shall weary themselves in vain?


You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but you have not enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he that earns wages earns wages to put it into a bag with holes.


You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I did blow it away. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that is in ruins, and you run every man unto his own house.


What fruit had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.


You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.
