I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:


It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn your statutes.


I know, O LORD, that your judgments are right, and that you in faithfulness have afflicted me.


Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law;


He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.


My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:


For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.


By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar like chalkstones that are beaten to dust, the idol poles and incense altars shall not remain standing.


O LORD, correct me, but with justice; not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.


Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?


You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.


Blessed is the man that endures trial: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.


Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.


As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
