And Jacob said, Nay, I pray you, if now I have found grace in your sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen your face, as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.


And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmaelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.


For except we had lingered, surely now we would have returned this second time.


And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.


And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.


And they made ready the present for Joseph’s coming at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.


And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a set rate year by year.

A man void of understanding gives pledge, and becomes surety in the presence of his neighbor.


A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.


Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.


A gift in secret averts anger: and a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.


How fair is your love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is your love than wine! and the fragrance of your perfume than all spices!


Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:


Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag upon the mountains of spices.


Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then has not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?


The men of Dedan were your merchants; many coastlands were the markets of your hand: they brought you for a present tusks of ivory and ebony.


Judah, and the land of Israel, they were your merchants: they traded in your market wheat from Minnith, and olives, and honey, and oil, and balm.


The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were your merchants: they traded in your fairs with the best of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.


But I have said unto you, you shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that flows with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from other people.


And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.


And with the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and with the precious things put forth by the moon,


And now this blessing which your handmaid has brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord.


Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is gone from our sacks, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
