11 And it shall be, if it makes to you an answer of peace, and opens unto you, then it shall be, that all the people that are found therein shall be subject unto you, and they shall serve you.

And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was always a lover of David.


And he answered, You shall not slay them: would you slay those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.


I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.


But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.


When you come near unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.


And if it will make no peace with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it:


And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under forced labor.


And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.


And they said unto Joshua, We are your servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are you? and from where do you come?


And they said unto him, From a very far country your servants have come because of the name of the LORD your God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,


And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
