And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are different from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to tolerate them.


And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are deserting to the Chaldeans.


Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech you, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the harm.


Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.


It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?


And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.


Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? are you come to destroy us? I know you, who you are, the Holy One of God.


(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)


And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.


And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.


And they were the more urgent, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.


But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.


Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and has polluted this holy place.


And they gave him audience until this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.


But this I confess unto you, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:


Nevertheless, that I be not further tedious unto you, I pray you that you would hear us in your kindness a few words.


And when he was come, the Jews who came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many serious complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.


Who knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most strict sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.


But we desire to hear of you what you think: for as concerning this sect, we know that everywhere it is spoken against.


Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,


And set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceases not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:


For there must be also heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you.


Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the trash of all things unto this day.


For this is commendable, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
