And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much who had believed through grace:


I commend unto you Phebe our sister, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:


Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.


And when I come, whomsoever you shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.


According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds thereon. But let every man take heed how he builds thereupon.


For though you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have you not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.


For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.


For not he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.


For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:


I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended by you: for in nothing am I behind the very chief apostles, though I be nothing.


Again, do you think that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.


For we are not as many, who corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.


For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to boast on our behalf, that you may have something to answer them who boast in appearance, and not in heart.
