For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.


For you permit it, if a man brings you into bondage, if a man devours you, if a man takes of you, if a man exalts himself, if a man smites you on the face.


For what is it in which you were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.


But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.


By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;


Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.


For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:


For neither at any time used we flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness:


If so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
